I always try to get my main keyword in the domain as it really does help with search engine rankings and i achieve this by using a modifier within the domain. A modifier is a random word that you can add at the beginning or the end of your domain name which enables you to find an un registered domain with a good keyword within the domain.

For example, your main keyword for your website is “Weight Loss”. It would be guaranteed that the domain “weightloss.com” has already been registered so you would have to use a modifier. This is where you have to be imaginative so i would go for something like “weightlosshub, guruweightloss, weightlosshero, weightlossnutter or something that sounds good.

I would always refuse to use hyphens (-) within my domain as this lowers the quality of your domain so try and avoid this. Im sure if you can brainstorm a few modifiers, you will come up with something worth your time.

Doing Your Research:

Before you register your domain you need to do some simple keyword research to determine what the best keyword is to include within your domain. You need to know that the keywords your targeting are in demand and have plenty of monthly searches.

The best tool for this would be the Google Keyword Tool. I use this tool for 95% of my research and is relatively accurate. Visit the tool and type in your main keyword or category. The keyword tool will then search for the most searched keywords and will return all results within seconds.
